Delhi, September 1, 2023 – In preparation for the much-anticipated G20 Summit, Delhi’s bustling metro system is set to take a brief pause. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that metro services will be temporarily suspended on 8th, 9th, and 10th September 2023, to ensure security and logistical arrangements during the international event.
The G20 Summit, which brings together leaders from the world’s largest economies, is scheduled to take place in Delhi from 8th to 10th September. This high-profile event will require heightened security measures and road closures across the city, including the suspension of metro services.
The DMRC issued a statement saying, “In light of the G20 Summit being held in Delhi, the Delhi Metro services will remain closed for three days, starting from 8th September (Friday) to 10th September (Sunday). This decision has been made to ensure the safety and security of all citizens and dignitaries attending the summit.”
The closure of the metro system will impact daily commuters and travelers during these dates. To mitigate the inconvenience, the DMRC has advised passengers to plan their travel accordingly and make use of alternative modes of transportation, such as buses, auto-rickshaws, and taxis.
The DMRC is also working closely with local law enforcement agencies to coordinate traffic management and ensure smooth movement throughout the city during the summit. Road diversions and security checkpoints will be in place, so residents and visitors are encouraged to stay informed about the latest updates and follow any traffic advisories issued by authorities.
